ESPRESSIONI DI GABRIEL GRACIA MARQUEZ
Catalogo di 60 pagine a colori all’interno 20 opere pubblicate di Franco Azzinari.
Azzinari first met the famous writer Gabriel Garcìa Màrquez in 2005 – introduced by Fidel Castro.
Azzinari was familiar with several of his novels and was attracted by Màrquez’s brilliant “magic realism”. Since then, Azzinari has met Màrquez in the Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano, Havana, along with Alquimia Pena, director of the Foundation. Attracted by the strong personality and charisma of the Nobel Prize winner, Azzinari decided to paint his portrait.
In December 2010, still in Cuba, they had the idea to organize an exhibition with twenty portraits of the writer. The event opened on December 8, 2011. Italian state television channels RAI 1, RAI 2 and RAI 3 carried extensive reportage by journalist, Pino Nano. Il Corriere della Sera published a review by Professor Nuccio Ordine and ANSA News Agency spread the news worldwide.
Repetition and difference – Nuccio Ordine
1.La magia del ritratto.
It will be difficult to deny the close relationships that portrait, since its ancient origins, holds with magic. The action to retrabere <to retain> for instance, through a symbolic reproduction of a copy, holds in its polysemic Latin origin, also the meaning of <saving>, a portrait in fact, has the miraculous power to bring alive who is not there, saving its image from death, from the oblivion.
It is just in this, that the magic effect and its hyperbolic challenge consist in, a deceptive wonder which doubles the model, and creates a worthy substitute to represents it. So, in a word, it makes visible what is invisible. It isn’t just because it acts as the model itself, but most of all because portrait allows it to hide and show at the same time.
Duplication can sometimes let us see what we can’t see in reality, and it shows us what is hidden within, in the deepest recesses of the soul. It can “Embody” a concealed interiority, as if depiction of reality could sometimes be, more meaningful than the reality itself. The twenty portraits by Gabriel Gacìa Màrquez, which Master Franco Azzinari presents in this catalogue, rouse a reflection on the action of withdrawing and on the effects that various expressions painted, may induce in the model and in the public that will come to the exhibition.
Expressions of Gabriel Garcià Marqùez – Alquimia Peña
Franco Azzinari, described by Sergio Zavoli as “The Painter of the Wind”, is the only one who advocates his painting style. With a large number of works on landscapes and expressions of multiple-portraits, he works hard to catch moments and feelings of men from different latitudes. He is an artist of the colour, inseparable by the chromatic generosity of naturalness, by the brightness of landscape and movement of the wind. Franco Azzinari has come to Cuba to the Quinta “Santa Barbara” to greet the writer and spend a day with him.
Franco admits that, the day he met him was at the same time thrilled seeing the beautiful gardens of the site. On that occasion Franco Azzinari promised Gabriel a portrait. That’s what was done. The same day I knew that Franco would perform other portraits, about twenty which are shown today. The event is undoubtedly the most interesting and artistic that Franco has gifted to our island. The people, his friends, the magic of the city and the Caribbean colour. Thanks to our friend Franco who has let us appreciate his various works with admiration and delight.
